Discover how current technology and social networking have rewritten the rules around friendship making, friendship keeping, and friendship breaking. Drawing from decades of clinical experience, Dr. Andrea Bonior uses enlightening anecdotes, modern research, and a healthy dose of humor to explore the interesting, fun, engaging, sometimes challenging, dramatic, and constantly evolving relationships we have with our friends and acquaintances. She provides smart advice, flush with wit and sarcasm, aimed at women grappling with their relationships. Not only does she embrace and trumpet the importance of friendship, she also offers relevant ideas and non silly steps to put yourself out there and start creating new friendships.
Author of a bestselling book on psychological principles, featured columnist for the Washington Post, Psychology Today and Huffington Post, adjunct professor at Georgetown University, and media personality, Dr. Andrea Bonior brings psychological science to life. Through her talks, press appearances, and writing, she provides actionable insights into overcoming real-world challenges, and explores how research backed techniques can help us achieve the lives we want, personally and professionally. She maintains a part time private therapy practice outside of Washington, DC, where she lives with her husband, three children, and a huge Black Lab(ish!) dog who just wants a belly rub.
For a preview of the lecture you can watch the following youtube video:
In lieu of a book sale, the first 50 WMF members to arrive will receive a free copy of the Dr. Bonior book, The Friendship Fix for Moms.
Social time starts at 7:00pm, lecture will begin promptly at 8. Hors d’oeuvres, an ice cream sundae bar, desserts and beverages/wine will be available for all attendees.
At the lecture, the Charitable Givings Committee is pleased to collect donations on behalf of Dignity Matters, a non-profit organization that supplies feminine hygiene products and underwear to local women and girls facing homelessness and economic hardship. Hygiene products are especially difficult for underserved women to obtain; federal assistance programs do not pay for them and they are rarely donated to food banks. As the only New England-based charity of its kind, Dignity Matters fills an essential role in our community to help women and girls stay healthy and live with basic dignity.
Dignity Matters is in urgent need of the following items:
1) Sanitary napkins and tampons. Opened boxes are welcome as long as individual products are sealed.
2) Female underwear, new with tags. Any brand, size, or color.
3) Bras, new or gently used. All sizes and styles are needed, including underwire bras, sports bras, nursing bras, maternity bras, shapewear, crop top style, etc.
More about Dignity Matters is available at www.dignity-matters.org. Thank you for your support of this important organization!
A non-member may attend a lecture or seminar once as a guest, when accompanied by a member, for a $20 guest fee, unless the lecture or seminar is closed to guests.
